Yashasvi Jaiswal set to leave Rajasthan Royals after being denied captaincy? “Quite possible”

Yashasvi Jaiswal unhappy with the Rajasthan Royals management?: The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 preparations have already begun. Despite the 2026 T20 World Cup being underway and the IPL just more than a month left for the toughest T20 league in India, some of the teams have already set their camps for the competition.

Rajasthan Royals, the champions of the inaugural edition of the competition, are yet to begin their preparations. Star India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been a part of the Royals since 2020, has showcased his talent for the franchise over the years.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is overlooked by RR

The Royals, who let go of their regular captain, Sanju Samson, in trade for experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja from Chennai Super Kings (CSK), did not have a captain in the side. In recent developments, from ESPNcricinfo, it has been found out that all-rounder Riyan Parag will be leading the side in the upcoming edition of the rich cash league.

The decision comes as a shocking snub towards Jadeja and Jaiswal. The RR will be announcing their captain on Friday. It has been understood that Yashasvi Jaiswal might not be in contention. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been with the side for nearly six seasons, will be disappointed with not being appointed as the captain.

Yashasvi Jaiswal set to leave RR?

Former opener Aakash Chopra has shared his views, replying to a fan that Jaiswal might also leave RR if his demands are not met. The timing set by the Royals to announce their captain is 4 PM IST. A fan said, “YJ might not last too long in RR…..likh lein,” in reply, Aakash Chopra said, “Quite possible…if his dreams aren’t getting aligned with team’s vision.”

Previously, Aakash said, “RR to announce their new captain today. Parag is likely to be captain. He was prepped to be the next leader in the franchise. So, makes sense.”

“But I’m thinking…if Jaiswal has asked for the leadership role? Because I think he should have. He has every right to feel that he’s fallen behind in the race with Gill because of the lack of captaincy credentials. His performances across formats is second to none.”

“He was a part of India’s World Cup winning team…but when the turn came, it was Gill who was preferred and made the VC. IPL is where you can show the world if leadership sits nicely with you or not. Let’s find out at 4pm.”

Jaiswal does not have leadership experience

Gill and Jaiswal are considered to be the upcoming superstars for India. However, the latter has often been in the shadow of Gill, especially in terms of leadership. Yashasvi Jaiswal was set to leave Mumbai to captain Goa; however, he did not. Despite initial reports and his initial request for a move, he stayed back to play for Mumbai.

Yashavi Jaiswal has not been a part of the T20 side for India, despite his strong performances. He has been used as the backup opener for the Men in Blue side in the ODI format. However, he is a regular starter on the Test side and has been brilliant in the traditional format of the game.
