Zack Wheeler going on IL with blood clot near shoulder

The Phillies placed ace Zack Wheeler on the injured list due to a right upper extremity blood clot, near his shoulder, the club announced on Saturday. There is no timetable for the right-hander’s return.

The 35-year-old Wheeler, who is a leading National League Cy Young candidate, leads all pitchers with 195 strikeouts in 149 2/3 innings. He’s 10-5 with a 2.71 ERA.
